2008 Community Outreach and Programming Initiatives
Branch Brook Park Alliance (BBPA) is proud to showcase the following activities and events in partnership with Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs and in collaboration with numerous other organizations and sponsors.
CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL
FREE (Registration Fees May Apply)
Sunday, April 13 – Sunday, April 20 Northern Division Visitor’s Center, Cherry Blossomland
An annual week-long festival showcasing the cherry blossom trees.
Activities include Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey 10K Run and Children’s Fun Run, Bike Race, Concert, Tours of the blossoms and family activities.

Thursday, April 17, 5:30pm – 10pm
Nanina’s in the Park
BBPA’s premiere event to raise monies to restore and reactivate Branch Brook Park.
BBPA’s INAUGURAL TOURS, LED BY ELIZABETH DEL TUFO
The Tours are part of a variety of efforts in response to the public’s desire to learn and become better educated about Essex County’s Branch Brook Park.

The Festival and Park Walking Tour
($5 donation + $2.70 for Light Rail)

Join the festivities taking place during Blossomfest and learn about the unique and historic collection of cherry trees and what is being done to restore and replace them. Also learn about the Park’s overall restoration. Food available for purchase at the Festival.
Wednesday, April 23

Tour de Cerise
($40 registration fee includes transportation throughout tour, lunch, reception)
Meet at Sacred Heart Cathedral (On-site parking is available)
Enjoy a 30-minute organ recital at the Cathedral, travel by private bus to a home-style Italian lunch in the dining room of the former William Clark Mansion, built in 1876, now the North Ward Center. Tour the renowned Blossoms, and cap the day off with a Sherry Reception in Forest Hill Historic District.

Educator’s Trolley Tour FREE
Meet at Cherry Blossom Welcome Center in Northern Division. Open to public and private 4th – 8th grade teachers in Newark. Explore this natural classroom, learn the importance of following the Park’s “Do’s and Don’t’s” and having a positive impact on the Park. An interactive and educational tour for those teaching our youngest citizens.
JERSEY CARES DAY
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Saturday, May 3, 2008 8:00am – 3:00pm

Prudential Lions in Southern Division
The derby is open to children ages 6 - 15. The family-friendly day features activities including boating, fishing equipment and face painting, as well as additional interactive activities and prizes. Food provided for participating children.

Enjoy the sounds of the renowned New Jersey Symphony Orchestra under the stars. Come for the music, stay for the spark! County of Essex sponsored fireworks follows the performance.
FARMERS’ & COMMUNITY MARKET / CIVIC SQUARE

Middle Division Complex
A 14-week Farmers’ & Community Market brings fresh produce, baked goods, flowers, plants and locally produced goods directly to the consumer. The market also offers free wellness information with a focus on fitness and nutrition.
Through positive activities, the unique Civic Square component will foster community by lowering the socio-cultural barriers that separate the diverse neighborhoods bordering the Park.
MOVIES UNDER THE STARS FREE
Fridays starting July 11 Pre-movie festivities begin 7:30pm, movies begin after sundown
The Meadow, Northern Division
A series of family-friendly movies. Selected for their universal appeal – families, youth of all ages, local organizations and various groups congregate in the Park, bringing blankets and snacks, to enjoy the movie and pre-show face painting and activities.
