2009 Community Outreach and Programming Initiatives

Branch Brook Park Alliance (BBPA) is proud to showcase the following activities and events in partnership with Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs and in collaboration with numerous other organizations and sponsors. 

Essex County Free SummerMusic Concert Series
Date: Tuesday, July 7
Time: Concert starts at 7:30 pm, fireworks after dusk
Location: The Meadow just north of the Ballantine Gateway
As part of the 2009 Essex County Free SummerMusic Concert Series, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, led by Conductor Jeffrey Grogan, performs selections from West Side Story, Carmen, Don Giovanni and The Mikado and feature soloists from Opera New Jersey.

Date: Fridays, July 10, 17, 24, 31
Time: Festivities begin at 7 pm, movie at sundown
Location: North of Ballantine Gates, inside the Park
Family friendly movies and festivities – lineup: July 10, Mamma Mia; July 17, The Goonies; July 24, Iron Man; July 31, Madagascar; Aug. 4, Madagascar 2 will be screened in conjunction with "Newark Night Out"

Movies Under the Stars - On the Road
"Movies Under the Stars" brings these fun movies to three additional Essex County Parks

Date: Thursday, July 16
Time: Festivities begin at 7 pm, movie at sundown
Location: Essex County Riverbank Park in Newark's Ironbound
Movie: Madagascar 2

Date: Tuesday, August 4
Time: Festivities begin at 7 pm, movie at sundown
Location: Essex County Weequahic Park in Newark's South Ward
Movie: The Longshots will be screened in conjunction with "Newark Night Out"

Date: Tuesday, August 4
Time: Festivities begin at 7 pm, movie at sundown
Location: Essex County West Side Park
Movie: Kung Fu Panda will be screened in conjunction with "Newark Night Out"

Date: Tuesday, August 4
Time: Festivities begin at 7 pm, movie at sundown
Location: Essex County Independence Park
Movie: Hotel for Dogs will be screened in conjunction with "Newark Night Out"

Farmers’ and Community Market [download poster]
Date: Fridays, July 10 to October 9, 2009
Time: 12 noon to 7 pm
Location: Clifton Avenue entrance, across from the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart
The Farmers’ and Community Market brings fresh produce, baked goods, flowers, plants and locally produced goods directly to the consumer. The market also offers wellness information with a focus on fitness and nutrition.

Dancing Under the Stars
Date: Fridays, August 7, 14
Time: Dancing lessons, 7 pm; Open dancing, 8 pm
Location: The Meadow just north of the Ballantine Gateway
Bring your dancing shoes for Friday Night Fever Fiesta with Salsa rhythms on August 7, and Salsa and Swing on August 14. Dancing lessons will begin each evening for those who need to brush up on their merengue or jitterbug moves.
