In 2007, Senator Ruiz became the first Puerto Rican elected to the Senate. Since then she has been re-elected five times. Currently Senate Majority Leader, Senator Ruiz is the highest ranking Latina legislator in state history. She previously served as chair of the Senate Education Committee. Throughout her time in the Senate, she has fought for equity in educational spaces, acting as the leading force in expanding access to early childhood education throughout the state. Sara Zewde
Sara Zewde is founding principal of Studio Zewde, a design firm practicing landscape architecture, urbanism, and public art. Named to Architectural Digest's AD100 and an Emerging Voice by the Architectural League of New York, the firm is celebrated for its design methods that sync culture, ecology, and craft. In parallel with practice, Sara serves as Assistant Professor of Practice at Harvard University Graduate School of Design and is currently writing a book on her research retracing Frederick Law Olmsted's journeys through the Slave South. Sara holds a master’s of landscape architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, a master’s of city planning from MIT, and a BA in sociology and statistics from Boston University. Susan T. Rodriguez, FAIA
Susan Rodriguez designs at the intersection of architecture and the public realm to create buildings and spaces that distill the essence of cultures and communities. Her award-winning work is recognized internationally for its contribution to the vitality of cities and landscapes, and the civic, cultural and educational institutions they serve. Ms. Rodriguez is currently leading the design of Central Park’s new Harlem Meer Center for the Central Park Conservancy. She founded Susan T Rodriguez | Architecture · Design in 2017, combining more than thirty years of design leadership as a founding partner at Ennead Architects (formerly Polshek Partnership) with a passionate belief in the power of architecture to affect change and improve the quality of life for all. Ms. Rodriguez is a recipient of the Women in Architecture Design Leader Award from Architectural Record recognizing the breadth and impact of her built work over the last three decades. She has been a longtime board member of the Architectural League of New York and one of the founding board members of Art Works Projects: Art + Design for Human Rights. Ms. Rodriguez received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art, and Planning, where she serves as the co-chair of the Dean’s Advisory Council and is a former trustee of the University. She received a masters degree in architecture from Columbia University and is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
